A brilliant first term!





Year 6 have had a fantastic first term. Everyone has shown a good attitude to their learning and really enjoyed our Apollo 2011 topic.

Well done to Sam and Ryan for their success at the Ashton Park Cross Country event on Wednesday. They will go on to represent Bristol in November.

A week of special guests






Year 6 have had another busy and unusual week!

Celso Paco - On Monday Celso came into school to tell our stories through music. It was brilliant to have him back in school again and we enjoyed hearing the stories he told and listening to the music.

Radio Bristol - On Thursday Ben Prater from Radio Bristol visited Year 6. He talked to us about being a journalist and answered our questions. This was later broadcast on the radio. If you missed it you can find it on BBC i-player.

Astronaut Day - Also on Thursday we had our Astronaut Day. Many of us came in space themed fancy dress. Our parents came in to see what we had been doing in the afternoon and everyone had a great time.
Thank you very much to the parents who joined us on Thursday, hope you enjoyed it.

Day and Night

Literacy - we have been continuing to look at journalistic writing this week. We have written a newspaper report using headlines to think of a story. Max was star of the week for his. Next Week a journalist for Radio Bristol will be coming to work with us.

Numeracy - this week we have been doing multiplication and division. We completed an investigation into what happens when you multiply odd x odd, even x even and even x odd. We have also looked at prime numbers and factors.

Topic - We have been learning about how Day and Night happens and how seasons happen. We used a ball and a torch to explain this. If you are able to come to our Astronaut Day we will teach you.

Interviews




We have had another busy week in Year 6.

Numeracy - We have been looking at number patterns, square numbers and using multiplication facts to help us find related division facts. Some of the investigations we have done were very difficult. Well done to Kara who managed to get everything correct today!

Literacy - This week we have started learning about Journalistic writing. We have read news reports and looked for who, what, when, where and why in the reports we have read. Yesterday we planned an interview and today we filmed them. They will be available to view on our Astronaut day. The classroom has been buzzing with excitement during the planning and filming.

No Pens Wednesday - We had great fun on Wednesday using no pens. We all created an invitation to our Astronaut day for our parents using letters from newspapers and magazines.

Poetry Party - On Thursday we had a poetry party with Year 4. We read the poems we had written to each other. It was good fun and we are hoping to do it again soon.

The Solar System





Year 6 have made a great start to the school year and they are working very hard.

Numeracy -
We have been designing and costing our own lunar theme park. We have been practicing our multiplication, addition and subtraction.
Next week we will be learning about number patterns.

Literacy
We have been reading and writing poems. We have written some excellent poems using personification, similes and metaphors. Our anthology of poetry will be in the library soon for everyone to read. Today we read our poems to each other and we are hoping to read them to other classes next week.
Next week we will be beginning to learn about Journalistic writing.

TopicThis week we have continued to learn about Space and prepare for our Apollo Mission. We researched planets in groups and presented this to each other.
Next week we will be learning about how day and night happen.

Well done to everyone that handed in their homework this week.

Healthy Schools Week

Sorry for the lateness of the blog, we have had a very very busy and varied few weeks!

Last week was Healthy School Week and we did lots of activties about healthy eating and exercise. Every morning we did a workout with the rest of the school in the playground. We also enjoyed a mix up session where we created a healthy lunchbox working in mixed aged groups.

On Wednesday was our sports Day. Everyone was excellent in their races and congratulations to the Green Team who won the event with 60 points!

On Friday we went to The Festival of Sports at Merchants Academy where we participated in a variety of sports. It was a fantastic day and everyone was well behaved.

Creative Problem Solving

This week we have been continuing with creative problem solving in maths. We did some problem solving invloving dominoes and also using pencils. We used excellent stickability!

In literacy we finished typing our Dr Who script and will entering the BBC from script to screen competition. We will let you know if we win.

Ashton Park came to visit us to talk about when we start Year 7 in September.

We started the difficult task of learning to maypole dance this week and we are doing very well with it. It takes a lot of concentration which we have been able to manage. Make sure you come and watch on Monday 20th June.

Out topic this Term is Ancient Greece: The Olympics. We will be beginning our research into this next week. For homework this weekend we are finding out about the sports they used to participate in during the Ancient Greek Olympics.

Dr Who, creative problem solving and Global Warming





This week in Numeracy we have been solving lots of creative problems. We have had to think carefully and use lots of stickability. Mrs Noble was very impressed with our stickability skills on Thursday and Friday, no one gave up!

In literacy we have been learning about the TV programme Dr Who. We have learnt about script writing, characters and settings. We will continue this next week when we will writing a three minute script in small groups. The best one will be sent to the BBC and entered into a competition.

We have continued with our topic research into Global Warming and will be filming our news reports on this issue next week.

We had a great Golden Time where we played with the toys from Year 2!! Look at the photos.

The Treginnis assembly will now take place on Thursday 26th May at 9am in the Main Hall. Apologies for it being cancelled this week as I was unwell.

SAT week



Apologies for not uploading the blog on Friday, the site was down.

Year 6 had a fantastic and positive attitude during SAT week and all the children were brilliant!

We did some detailed sketching of the school playground in the week. Mrs Christmas is going to display some of them in The Arts Trail at the weekend.

Treginnis and Revision!

Year 6 had a fantastic week at Treginnis Farm before the Easter Holidays. The weather was mostly kind to us! We will be showing our photos in Assembly on 18th May and parents are welcome to attend.

The last two weeks have been strange with bank holidays and the INSET day. We have been doing lots of revision to prepare for our SAT tests which take place next week.

During SAT week we will be creating a display about Treginnis to put up in the hall. Make sure you come and see it.

Cooking

This week Year 6 have been doing lots of cooking. On Wednesday we cooked chicken stir fry, it was very tasty. We prepared all the food and then ate it, well most people tasted it!

On Friday one of the cooking groups cooked Vindaloo. It was very hot and some of the teachers couldn't handle it.

Dance Festival and Pasta Bake

This week Year 6 have been continuing with their topic Ready! Steady! Cook! by cooking pasta bake and making salad on Wednesday. On Thursday we tasted the food in class and most people came up for a second helping. Some even had a third helping!!

Today Year 6 took part in the dance festival at Ashton Park School. Year 6 performed their Japanese dance to a large audience and everyone was excellent. We have some very talented dancers.

We have been looking at discussion texts in literacy this week and will continue this next week.
