Japanese school and Hogwarts.

Firstly apologies for lack of blog the last few weeks, I have had problems logging on.

It has been a busy, unusual and exciting week in Year 6. On Monday we visited the Japanese School in London. The children had great fun with their Japanese friends and joined in with lots of activities including cleaning the school after lunch. They were very well behaved and performed the Butter Peas dance really enthusiastically.

On Thursday we had a First Aid Workshop with the Red Cross and learnt about treating burns, the recovery position and how to apply a bandage.

Today Luckwell School become Hogwarts! We made some disgusting potions and did some good writing about travelling on the Hogwarts Express. Professor Snape visited the school and was very impressed with the potions.

Next week is a more normal week.

Poetry and Problem Solving

Numeracy - This week we have been problem solving. Some of the problems we were solving were very difficult but everyone showed great 'stickability'. We have learnt that we need to read the questions properly to avoid making simple mistakes.

Literacy - We have been writing more poems this week. We have written poems using similes, metaphors and imagery. We wrote a whole class poem called Fantastic Facts which is at the bottom of the Blog. Hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed writing it.

Topic - this week we learnt how day and night happen and have created information pages about this. We have also started looking at motivating and the Learning Stances we use in school.

Our stopping and listening to instructions has been much much better this week.

Unless it got hit by a flying Celt

plasticine madness!

In Literacy we have been focusing on narrative and using VCOP in our writing. We have been focusing on planning stories and writing them in 45 minutes.

In Numeracy we been learning about using formula and looking for patterns. Some of it has been quite difficult!

This week we have made a start on our Plasticine garden. We learnt about the parts of the flower and the lifecycle of a plant. This helped us to make detailed flowers.

Our science challenge was - Water travels up the stem of a plant - Prove it! We have put carnations in coloured water to see if the petals change.

On Wednesday we did our class assembly.

Patrick was star of the week, Ruby was singer of the week and Jamie was man of the match at Football.
