Hip Hop and town Planner

Year 6 have had another mixed busy week.

On Wednesday Mike a town planner talked to us about how to plan a town. We looked at what we liked and didn't like about housing, transport, industry and retail. we planned our own towns. Next week we will be continuing to do this. Keep Wednesday 21st October free as we will be holding our exhibition of towns at 2.30pm on that day. Hope you can make it.

We also had Rachel in to teach us some hip hop.

Congratulations to Catherine who was our Star of the Week and congratulations to Sam who has been selected to train with Gloucestershire Cricket Squad under 11's. (Hope I had got that information correct Sam!)

This week we have focused on RE. We looked at the Art in St David's Cathedral, which we visited whilst at Treginnis, and made our own versions of the art.

We have created clay models of our friends.

Next week we will be starting narrative work in literacy and building up to write our own extended stories.

Problem Solving, narrative and the lifecycle of a plant

Year 6 have had another great week and been working hard again.

In literacy we have read The Bad Beginning and done lots of writing activities about the story. It was a good story and the diaries that the children have written in the character of someone in the story were great.

This week in numeracy we have been lots of problem solving activities, some which were very difficult! We have also been practicing our mental maths and trying to get quicker at answering questions.

Science has been fun this week and to help the children learn the parts of a flower they have made flowers - which look great. We have began looking at the Lifecycle of a Plant and have started growing some plants.

Another great week Year 6 - keep up the good work!

Green plants, fractions and narrative!

Year 6 have been working really hard again this week. We have been focusing on green plants in science. We have revised and learnt some new names for the parts of a plant and the parts of a flower. On Wednesday we learnt about photosynthesis (which is how plants make their food) and created information pages about this. We have set up an experiment with one plant in the dark and one plant in the light.

In literacy we have been looking at narrative and looking for features of narrative genres. We will be looking at narrative for the next few weeks and eventually writing our own stories.

In numeracy we have been learning about fractions, ratio and proportion. This is a difficult concept but the children have been great at it.

Well done Year 6 for another good week! Especially in the mornings! We could be quieter in the afternoons thou!!!
